These terms govern your use of Life Ring. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them.

The service
Life Ring keeps a private copy of the contacts you choose to back up and lets you reach them from another device if your phone is lost, dead, or gone. Recovery is device-independent and is helped by the trusted people (“lifelines”) you designate.
Your account
You must provide accurate information, keep your credentials secure, and be responsible for activity on your account. You must be old enough to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction.
Lifelines & your responsibilities
- You send lifeline invitations yourself, from your own phone, and only to people who agreed to be your lifeline.
- You will only back up contact information you are entitled to store.
- You will not use Life Ring to harass, impersonate, or contact people without their consent.
Text messages (SMS)
Life Ring is operated by Circles Digital, Inc. You send initial lifeline invitations yourself using your own messaging app. Life Ring does not text someone simply because an owner supplies their number.
SMS recovery is optional and available only when enabled. After verifying their email, a helper may enter their own US mobile number and explicitly consent to automated Life Ring verification and recovery texts. We send a requested verification code; recovery alerts begin only after the helper verifies that code. When the owner starts recovery, opted-in helpers receive a private, expiring review link. Email recovery remains available independently. We do not send marketing texts.
Message frequency varies; message and data rates may apply. Consent is not a condition of purchase. Reply STOP to unsubscribe, HELP for support, or START to opt back in after STOP. Helpers can also turn off recovery texts through their private preferences. Contact [email protected] for help. See our Privacy Policy.
Payment
Life Ring offers monthly or annual subscriptions where available, at the price and billing period shown before you confirm your purchase. Individual subscriptions purchased in the iPhone or Android app are billed by Apple or Google and renew automatically unless cancelled. Manage or cancel through the store account used to purchase the subscription. Cancellation stops future renewals; coverage continues through the paid period unless refunded or revoked. Deleting your Life Ring account does not cancel a store subscription.
Where offered, the Founding Member purchase is a one-time payment for lifetime access to Life Ring’s current contact-backup and recovery service for one individual. It does not renew automatically and does not include family seats or every future paid feature. We may stop offering new Founding Member purchases; existing purchased access remains valid. The price and availability are shown in the app before purchase. Store purchases remain subject to store refund and revocation rules.
Apple and Google handle refund requests for purchases billed through their stores. Website subscriptions and prepaid gift bundles are billed through our website payment provider under the terms shown at checkout. A prepaid gift does not automatically create a renewing store subscription for its recipient.
The iOS app is licensed under Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement. These service terms also apply to your Life Ring account and service.
Acceptable use
Don’t misuse the service: no unlawful use, no attempts to break security or access another user’s data, no interference with the recovery or lifeline systems.
Disclaimers & liability
Life Ring is provided “as is.” We work to keep recovery available and secure, but we don’t guarantee uninterrupted service. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or remedies that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
Termination
You can stop using Life Ring and delete your account at any time, which permanently erases your backed-up contacts. We may suspend accounts that violate these terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Carolina, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
Changes
We may update these terms and will revise the “last updated” date above.
